Comments:

I am very happy to get the first game, and win, under the belt following my return to Leicester Lions as head coach.

Nuneaton, complete with a number of former National league players, were always going to give us a good test so we were delighted with our performance. There is much still to work on before our first league game but as a first hit out we couldn’t have asked for much more from the boys.

We made a lot of new signings over the summer, most of which were in action on Tuesday night, and it was really pleasing to see them all settle in so well.

I was also very pleased with the tempo we were able to play at throughout the game. We’ve been working hard on fitness levels over pre-season in order to play a certain style of rugby, so it was very pleasing to see the boys achieve that in the first game.

We will also be running a development team this season and a number of players got their first run out for the club in this game. It was very encouraging to see levels of accuracy and energy maintained when a number of these young guys were out there.

We’re now looking forward to another tough test In our next and final warm up match away to Loughborough Students on 31st August.

Gareth Collins (head coach Leicester Lions).

New coaching staff also includes: assistant coaches Jason Button, Seko Sio and Jason Aldwinckle.
