Leicester Lions RFC are pleased to announce the signing of two young local talents.

James Stubbs

Scrum half James Stubbs joins Lions having just finished his studies at the well renowned Hartpury College university where he played for the BUCS representative sides. He previously played at Market Harborough and Hereford RFC and also represents Leicestershire as a junior.

Head coach Gareth Collins commented: ‘‘James is an exciting and talented scrum half and I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do for us. He has really impressed me in our first couple of pre-season sessions with his speed, balance and ability to pass accurately. His enthusiasm and desire to improve is exactly what we’re looking for in our young players and will mean he could have a long and successful time with the club.’’

James commented: ‘’I am really excited to get involved with Lions and the brand of rugby that they play. It offers me a new challenge and a great opportunity to progress further with my rugby.

Charlie Loveday

Charlie is a prop and joins us from South Leicester RFC following his first season of National League rugby last season. He previously played for his local club as a junior, Kestesteven RFC, before joining Melton Mowbray RFC where he progressed from the junior sides all the way through to the club’s first team. He has represented Leicestershire under 18s, under 20s and the senior side.

Head coach Gareth Collins commented ‘‘Charlie is a young prop with a huge amount of potential. He is someone I know well having coached him at Melton Mowbray and I was delighted when he was given the opportunity to play national league rugby last season at South. That experience will be invaluable as he looks to progress this season. With Jase (Aldwinckle), Seko (Sio) and Muzza (Shaun Murray) to guide him, I believe he’ll become a formidable tight head at this level.’’

Charlie commented: ‘‘I'm looking forward to a new season and a fresh start with a new club that has a lot of ambition. I hope to improve and develop, and I believe the Lions playing and coaching staff will enable me to do that.’’
