Head coach Gareth Collins has named his leadership team for the coming season in National 2 South. When asked about the appointments Collins commented: ''I am a firm believer in your player leadership being the most important factor in driving your culture. I am therefore very lucky to have so many good characters that drive standards both on and off the pitch. Alex has done a fantastic job as captain but understandably has to step down due to his other commitments. Tappy did such a good job stepping in when Alex was injured last year that he was the obvious replacement. He is a leader in every sense of the word and I know our group is in safe hands with him at the helm. Ollie Taylor and Devon Constant have both been at Lions for a number of years now and represent what the club is all about. They are two individuals who lead through their actions and demand high standards from those around them. I am delighted to have been able to appoint them as vice captains alongside Alex.''
Ollie Tapscott commented: ''When Gaz offered the full-time captaincy it was a no-brainer for me. There is such a great group of people at this club - players, coaches, support staff and supporters - that leadership is a genuine pleasure. Confidence has remained high following a positive campaign last time out, but players have been pushed in pre-season to take all aspects of their game to the next level. I look forward to seeing us pushing for the top places in the league.''
Alex Wilcockson commented: ''It has been an honour to be able to captain the side over the past two seasons. We had some great achievements both on and off the pitch. Due to my studies to become a doctor I had to make the difficult decision to step down however this decision was made made easier knowing that Tappy would be taking over the reigns. I will continue in my new role as vice captain to support him and the other vice captains and hopefully help lead to group to further success. Gaz has put together an unbelievably strong squad over the past 2 years and I am looking forward to getting out on the field this year.''
Ollie Taylor commented: ''I was delighted to be asked to become a vice captain for this season. We have so many good and experienced players so it's nice to be considered for the position. Tappy will do a great job as skipper and I will support him how I can. We have all worked hard this pre-season and I'm just looking forward to getting in to the league matches.''
Devon Constant commented: ''I was honoured when Gaz asked me to become a vice-captain and I'm very grateful to be given the opportunity. I've been at the club for a number of years now but I don't think we've ever had such depth and competition within the squad. I am excited about what we can achieve and I will help Tappy lead where I can.''
