New Coaching Announcement

Leicester Lions are delighted to announce that Aniseko ‘Seko’ Sio will be returning to the club to coach the forwards this season and Demetrius ‘Demo’ Gonsalves will fulfil the new development coach position.
Seko is a Samoan loosehead prop who currently plays for Nottingham in the Championship, having previously helped Leicester Lions to a third place finish in National 2 North in 2017. Previous to that he spent some time at Leicester Tigers. Seko has also represented Samoa, making his Test debut in a 33-14 defeat to Japan.

Head coach Gareth Collins commented: ‘‘Seko will be a great addition to our coaching team. He has international and Premiership rugby experience and is now an established Championship prop. He also knows what it takes to play National 2 rugby for Leicester Lions so is therefore the perfect role model for our current group. He will be able to bring up-to-date technical points from a higher level but he’s also a great character to have around the club.’’

Seko commented: ‘‘It’s great to be back at Leicester Lions and joining a young and talented group. I'm looking forward to working alongside Gareth and the coaching staff and I’m excited about what we are looking to achieve.’’

Demo played at Leicester Lions last season following spells with South Leicester, Oakham and Rugby Lions, and has also represented Warwickshire. He also has substantial playing and coaching experience in both rugby league and basketball, gaining international honours in rugby league and coaching both sports at National league level.

Head Coach Gareth Collins commented: ‘‘Demo is a great guy to have involved with us. He’s incredibly passionate and desperate to make a difference to the club. When I decided to run a development team this season he was the first man I thought of so I am delighted that he’s decided to be on board. He has great experience of high level sport and will be able to bring fresh ideas and he’s going to help us move the club and the playing squad forward.’’

Demo commented: ‘‘I have a strong interest in coaching and supporting the development of club rugby and sport participation. I have been fortunate to work with grassroots, amateur and semi-professional athletes prior to undertaking this role. Being a part of the coaching staff this year is an excellent opportunity for myself, of which I am excited to undertake. Leicester Lions is a club that has a long history of national league rugby. With the return of Gareth Collins, I feel that this is an extension of the strong history and the start of a new era of rugby at Leicester Lions. I am looking forward to working with the staff & players this upcoming season.’’

The Leicester Lions development team will play in the South East Reserve team league which is made up of reserve teams from the Championship, National 1 and National 2 South. If there is anyone who has the ambition of playing National league rugby, and believes they have the potential to reach that standard, then please contact Head Coach Gareth Collins at glcollins1@hotmail.com for further details.
