New Signing - Shaun Murray

Leicester Lions are delighted to announce the return to the club of Shaun Murray.

Shaun rejoins Lions from relegated National 2 neighbours South Leicester. Shaun is a formidable tighthead prop and has played over 300 games in National 2 North and currently holds the all-time record for National 2 North appearances. Shaun played for Westleigh before the club amalgamated with Wigston RFC to become Leicester Lions in 1999. He has represented Leicestershire, including this year where he starting in the sides’ Bill Beaumont Div 2 final victory at Twickenham.

Head coach Gareth Collins commented: ‘’It’s great to have Muzza back at the club. He’s typifies what the club stands for - he’s a local lad who has achieved so much through hard graft. He may well be in the ‘twilight’ of his career now but he is still an excellent scrum technician and will solidify our set piece. He will also help bring on our crop of young props. Apart from his pre-match diet and his dubious sense of humour, Shaun is a great guy and, because he played for Leicester Lions on their journey to the National leagues, he knows first-hand the club’s history and what a true ‘Lion’ is.’’

Shaun commented: ‘’I’m really excited about returning to Leicester Lions. It’s a great club with ambition and some fantastic players (apart from Devon). I’m also excited to work with the charismatic and good looking Gaz Collins who I previously played with when he was captain of Lions (although he was far less ginger back then). I’m sure he can infuse his energy and experience into the team and get us playing a fun style of rugby. Hopefully get me on the scoresheet as well as it’s been nearly a decade since scoring a real try (although I do claim all pushovers)!’’
