Leicester Lions are pleased to announce the return to the club of Rhoderick ‘Rhod’ McNaughton.
Rhod is a loosehead prop who re-joins the club following a spell at the recently relegated National 2 North neighbour South Leicester. He has previously played for Perthshire RFC, Glasgow University and Hillhead Jordanhill in Scotland, as well as Loughborough Town RFC and Loughborough University. He has also represented the Leicestershire senior side since 2012 and so has been involved in two championship winning sides.
Head Coach Gareth Collins commented: ‘‘It’s great to have Rhoddy back at the club. He is a former team mate of mine so is a player that I know very well. He has a top work ethic and that is why he’s still operating at this level after so long. Like Muzza (Shaun Murray who has also signed) he is definitely in to the ‘twilight period’ of his career but he will offer a huge amount of experience both on and off the field. Our current crop of young props will be learning off a couple of the best in the business at this level.’’
Rhod commented: ‘‘I am excited about joining Lions again as it’s a chance to play with a bunch of lads - some new faces to me, but some familiar ones too - and work with a new ambitious coach, of whom I have heard good things! It’s also a new challenge in the last years of my career. I think Lions have the potential to be really good side and hopefully I can play some part in that. It will be good to prove everyone wrong about our chances in Nat 2 South.’’
