Gareth Collins has made three signings this summer to strengthen his squad ahead of the return to National 2 South for the 2021/22 season.
Tight head prop Isaac Thompson joins the Lions from Cardiff Met University where he has been studying and playing for the last 3 years in both the Super Bucs competition and the Welsh Championship. Before university Isaac attended Oakham school and also represented England Counties U18.
Head Coach Gareth Collins commented: ''It's great to have Isaac join us for this season. He is someone I've known since his days as a junior at Melton Mowbray and has always had a lot of talent, and a lot of size! He has a real turn of pace for such a big man as well as good hands. We are lucky to have such strength in depth in such an important position.''
Isaac commented: ''I am really excited to be joining Leicester Lions. I hope to challenge for my place and help the side challenge at the top of National 2. I want to contribute to what Gaz and the club are trying to build. It seems to be a great bunch of lads and I can't wait to get stuck in to pre-season.”
Jake Sterland and Jack Vernum, two former Leicester Tigers academy players, also join Lions for the forthcoming season. Winger Jake was part of the Tigers academy team who won the Premiership U18 final in 2020 and was also involved in the England U18 squad last season.
Collins commented ''Jake is a really exciting talent and we are lucky to have signed him for this season. I have been really impressed with his attitude during our summer training. He is a powerful ball carrier and I am looking forward to seeing what he'll be able to bring to our attack.''
Jake commented: ''I am really excited to start a new chapter in my rugby career at Lions. I have really enjoyed the summer training with a squad that has such a strong bond. I hope to add something to what is already a really good group.''
Jack Vernum returns to his junior club having also played at Market Harborough before joining Leicester Tigers.
Collins commented: ''It certainly makes me feel old but I remember Jack being a mascot for Lions back when I was captain, so it's amazing to welcome him back to the club and in to the senior squad. Jack has really impressed me with his skill level and I look forward to seeing what he can bring to our group.''
Jack commented: ''I'm really pleased to be joining Lions and be part of what the club is trying to do. After starting my rugby journey at Lions aged 5, I am delighted to be back. I look forward to the challenge of playing National league rugby.''
