Leicester Lions finished 2017 with a local derby against South Leicester and started 2018 with a fixture against close neighbours Hinckley.
It was a raw afternoon for the local derby between Leicester Lions and league leaders Hinckley. Early morning rain gave a wet playing surface, with a cold northerly wind blowing across the pitch.
Hinckley were quick to take an advantage with some powerful forward play and scrummaging.
On 10 minutes Lions' Simon Johnson was yellow carded for a technical offence.
Hinckley continued their pressure and on 17 minutes a clever chip out towards the wing put Mitch Culpin through to score a try in the corner.
On 23 minutes Joe Wilson added a penalty for Hinckley to make the score 0-8.
When it was looking like Lions might prevent further first half scoring, on 38 minutes Hinckley's scrum half Joe Glover took advantage following up their powerful forward play and nipped through for Hinckley's second try, converted by Joe Wilson.

In the final minutes of the game Hinckley's Rhodri Tanner drove over to score Hinckley's fourth try, collecting the bonus point.
Final Score: Leicester Lions 0 Hinckley 27
A good deserved win for Hinckley, gaining the extra point for a four try win. Some plucky defensive work by Leicester Lions.
