League Points 5-0

Leicester Lions 17: Tries: Sam Benjamin (6), Alex Wilcockson (18), Ed Sumpter (35); Conversions: Harry Key (36);

Tynedale RFC is situated in the village of Corbridge, in Northumberland, 16 miles west of Newcastle and 4 miles east of Hexham, in Hadrian’s Wall Country.
Tynedale made a lively start to the game with winger Guy Pike picking up and scoring a try, from a Matty Outson kick through which was dropped by Lions behind their try line, after 2 minutes.
After 6 minutes Lions were quick to retaliate when a Tynedale kick did not make touch and Lions swiftly put them under pressure with Sam Benjamin going over for a try to level the score at 5-5.
On 18 minute Tynedale gave the ball too much air in a pass and Lions’ Alex Wilcockson took the interception to go over for a try and take the lead 5-10.
This time Tynedale quickly came back with Pike picking up a loose ball and going over for his second try, with Rob Parker adding the conversion, to retake the lead at 12-10.
After 30 minutes Tynedale stretched their lead with a fine try by their winger, Morgan Passman, to give a 17-10 score line.
Again Lions came back into the game with speedy second-row, Ed Sumpter, crashing through the Tynedale defence for a try, converted by Harry Key, which levelled the score at 17-17 after 35 minutes.
Just when it was looking like a draw at half-time, from a line-out hooker David Batey drove over to score the fourth try for Tynedale, with Parker adding the conversion to go in with a 24-17 lead.
An exciting and enterprising first half with seven tries score – four to Tynedale and three to Lions.

Half Time: Tynedale 24 Leicester Lions 17

The game closed up in the second half with a limited number of scoring opportunities, with Tynedale making the best of their chances to add to their points tally.
On 63 minutes Parker added a penalty for Tynedale.
In the final 10 minutes of the game Tynedale sewed up the result when Passman added his second try to stretch their lead to 32-17.

Full Time: Tynedale 32 Leicester Lions 17

The first half was the better with open flowing rugby. In the second half Tynedale played well to consolidate their half-time lead and achieve the deserved victory. Compared with previous weeks there was no comeback by Lions in the later stages of the game.
After the completion of all the weekend’s fixtures, Leicester Lions are in fourteenth position in National League 2 North and Tynedale in eleventh position.
Lions’ head coach, Andy Key said, “The game had an exciting and flowing first half with both sides making good use of the opportunities they had, with Lions acquitting themselves excellently. Obviously it was disappointing that we did not add to our points tally in the second half”.
