Another 5 point win for the lions

The Lions left it late to put the game to bed but finally got a much needed win on the road.

The game started with an early exchange of penalty kicks leaving the scores 3-3 after just 4 minutes.

This soon changed as the Lions then seemed to have the majority of the play, dominating for much of the half, helped by Bromsgrove indiscipline.

Bromsgrove saw three yellow cards during the first period, playing most of the half with 14 men and the Lions used this to their advantage. Three tries and a penalty kick from the visitors spread over the half kept the Leicester Lions flowing momentum and the referee on their side. The tries came from John Williamson, Rob Young and Danny Campbell. Boden converting two.

It was clear the home side went In at the half frustrated with the score 3-25 in Lions favour.

After the interval the game changed for the Lions. Rather than playing a quick running game with a solid defence, Bromsgrove seemed to shorten the visitors up and find holes in the defence.

It was now Lions making the mistakes and giving away penalties. With the visitors on the back foot, Bromsgrove upped their intensity, as you would expect from a home side, and ran in two tries in quick succession scored by Dacres and Higgins.

The gap in the scores was then narrowed further through a penalty kick, slotted by Critchlow. Bromsgrove had pulled themselves back in the game at 18-25.

With the stakes now hotting up, and both sides playing to score, it was Lions that continued with the errors as Morris was sent to the Sin Bin with 15 minutes to play.

The Lions defence held firm as the visitors picked their work rate back up. Leicester were finally rewarded with their bonus point try, scored through some good hands and finished off with some hard running by number 10 Adan Greendale. Boden added the extras leaving the Lions to hold Bromsgrove out for 5 minutes and hopefully take the 5 points home. Score 18-32.

The supporters thought the game was about over until the Lions replacement hooker, Ollie Taylor caught a crafty intercept from Bromsgrove on the half way. Taylor was holding nothing back as he put his head down and shuttled, uncaught all the way to the try line to finish the game with a respectable score line of 18-39.

The Lions worked hard in the first half but let this go to pot for 25 minutes of the second half only to recover it at the end to be content to go home with the 5 league points.

Next week is the last home game of the season as the Lions face Harrogate. 2pm kick off. See you at Westleigh Park on Saturday.
