In contrast to last week’s tenacious defensive performance, this will certainly be a week Lions will be quick to put behind them. Just two minutes into the game and Ampthill had their opening try which was successfully converted. Stunned and maybe still back in the changing room, Lions made countless errors from missed tackles to knock ons and gifted Ampthill a further 6 first half trys. Despite a great individual pitch length interception from ‘speedy’ winger Luke Veebel, converted by Jonno Williams, this would prove to be Lions only points of the half and in fact the game.
Half time Ampthill 47 - 7 Leicester Lions
Lions now playing for pride and the elusive 4 try bonus point, struggled to hold onto possession and territory for much of the second half. Despite a few half breaks and field possession from penalties, Lions were unable to cause any major problems to the Ampthill defence. Ampthill themselves created only a few chances due to a much improved second half defensive effort from the Lions. Ampthill scored a further 19 points during this period.
Final score 66-7.
