Harrogate Report

Harrogate had a 7-5 lead after a disjointed 1st half which was punctuated by lengthy refereeing discourses at scrums due to Lions dominance in the first half.

Jon Boden’s started off the kicking with a penalty attempt that went wide and Harrogate made a break which seemed to have created a try but the move broke down with a knock-on.

At the other end of the pitch Rob Young drove strongly from behind an attacking scrum to put the Lions 0-5 ahead. Harrogate continued to attack but good Lions defence and crucial attacking errors kept the Lions ahead. Eventually, Harrogate won turnover ball from a Lions drive and a half break created space for Callum Irvine to cut through the defence for an under the posts converted try.

The teams came out for the second half and it was whoever was to score first would add pressure to the other team.

Lions went offside, and the home side took advantage with an attacking chip to score in the left corner.Lions had fallen behind. The Harrogate pressure continued and, after persistent Lions offside offences, Boden was sin binned. Harrogate's kicker, Rowntree made it 18-5.

The Lions’ defence deserved credit for holding out against constant Harrogate pressure for the rest of the match. Seemingly certain scoring passes were spilled by the home backs and some marginal refereeing decisions went in Harrogate's favour allowing them to sneak a try. Due to constant pressure from the Lions, Harrogate failed to secure a bonus point.

Lions look to next week to end this losing streak.
