Lions started confidently with a well worked try finished by Jack Spittle after just two minutes of play. From there things only got worse for a struggling Stockport as Lions executed a strong catch and drive from the lineout gaining valuable yards followed with quick hands which allowed Steve Cross to exceed the gain line creating space for an off load to Kane Nixon who ran it under the posts.
The Lions pack was dominating at every opportunity forcing Stockport to give away a handful of penalties which lead to Rob Young diving over from the back of a scrum making it 15-0 in the first 20 minutes.
Stockport came close to the Leicester try line but their ruthless and tireless defence caused handling errors which allowed Lions to exit their own half with no points conceded. Stockport were again punished with patient phase play from Lions allowing holes in their defence to be exploited, Jon Boden scoring and converting the fourth try in the 23rd minute. Things went from bad to worse for Stockport with the powerful Leicester Lions pack consistently proving to be too strong for Ports pack and gained a well-earned penalty try on the stroke of half time.
The second half started a bit scrappy with a lack of discipline from both sides. This broke down the structure and made it hard for either team to get into their patterns of play. However, Lions soon got in to their rhythm creating another forward dominated try, scored by substitute Ben Brownlie. Only 4 minutes later Brownlie struck again scoring his second of the match as he scrambled the ball over from the back of a maul, converted by Jon Boden, 41-0.
Leicester then added two further tries against a tiring Stockport side that had tackled aggressively all afternoon. Firstly Devon Constant scored a great individual try, breaking 3 or 4 tackles, and a firm hand off, which allowed him to run over the try line. Second try was a brilliant bit of hands from Steve Cross setting up Luke Veebel in the corner with Boden converting both tries to make it 55-0.
A tough day for Stockport but a well-deserved win for the Lions. Hopefully they will take their confident form in to next weeks match at home again, against Ampthill.
