Lions nilled away from home

Hull ran out 27 - 0 victors at against Leicester Lions on Saturday afternoon, after another disappointing away performance from the Lions.

Hull were in control of the game from the outset. After strong play from the forwards to provide good ball, Hull fly-half Greg Lounds played the areas of the pitch well, and with his boot kept Lions pinned deep in their own territory for the opening periods of the game.

This pressure eventually resulted in Hull breaking down the outside of Lions, ending with Hull’s Stephen Hihetah scoring the opening try of the game after 8 minutes.

Lions fought back and began to exert pressure back on Hull throughout the first half, but crucial mistakes spurned multiple scoring opportunities. After making it to the home sides 5 metre line on numerous occasions, Lions were unable to record any points to show for their efforts.

To make it harder for Lions to fight back, Hull’s Lound landed a penalty mid-way through the first half, and along with Phil Eggleshaw's try two minutes before half time Lions went in to the changing rooms with a 13-0 deficit.

The second half began with Hull in the ascendency, and they were able to apply immediate pressure on Lions and gain reward for their pressure through Phil Eggleshaw's second try of the match.

Lions created little in attack throughout the second half, with what little they had of the ball usually ending with an unforced mistake or turnover. In contrast, a dominating performance from Hull no.8 and man-of-the-match Phil Eggleshaw, and a clinical performance from fly-half Greg Lounds ensured that the Lions were always on the back foot and the home side were able to score another try through Alex Heard, bringing the score to 27 - 0 at full time.

This disappointing performance from Lions highlights the problems the side has had away from home this season, with the 27 - 0 scoreboard unfortunately reflecting the performance.
